The Avengers & Justice League Have Some Competition. Meet Russia's 'Guardians'

To be honest, the Western world doesn't usually pay a whole lot of attention to foreign cinema with out-of-sync-looking voice dubbing or pesky subtitles (you can't browse your phone or multi-task when your eyes must be on the screen), but occasionally a film is released that looks so promising that even subtitles aren't a barrier for mainstream audiences.

I think one of those films is the upcoming 2017 Russian neo-noir superhero movie Guardians (Защитники Zaschitniki in the native tongue).

These ranks will appear at the end of the recap and will let you know just how many tits and dragons have appeared in each episode

[Editor's note: It was SO hard to choose a header image for this episode as there is so much going on. Are you keeping track?]

Let's get right to it and talk episode 2 (entitled “Home”) of HBO’s Game of Thrones:
  • Bran Stark (Issac Hempstead-Wright)–remember him? Well, he’s all grown up and having flashbacks all over the place thanks to enrolling in the Diploma of the Three-Eyed-Raven. In the “This Is Your Life” segment, Bran wins a trip down memory lane. Unfortunately, the Three-Eyed-Raven won’t let him stay there but we learn just enough to find out Hodor’s name is actually Willis (which is completely hilarious thanks to the meme below) and for some strange reason Bran knows what his dad’s sister, Lyanna looks like. So who is this Lyanna? And why would she be important? Well…

Mark Your CalendaR: This is What's Coming and Going From Netflix in May 2016

Netflix streaming service is like a revolving door, with programs coming and going not in bulk each week, but something leaving the service and something else replacing it every other day.

There are a bunch of Netflix Original programs hitting the service this month, including the debut season of Lady Dynamite, as well as continuing seasons of Bloodlines, Grace & Frankie, Chef's Table (season 2) and Mako Mermaids (season 4). There are also a couple of Netflix Original features debuting on the streaming service this month (Marseille, Ali Wong: Baby Cobra, Chelsea and The Do-Over) plus a ton more.
Make sure to check what's leaving and catch those titles you've been planning to watch but never got around to. Once they're gone, they're gone.

Happy watching!

Picture
In tonight's episode of Fear the Walking Dead (season 2, episode 3), we were introduced to some new characters, the survivors and many not-survivors, of a plane crash.

But who the heck are they?

If you've been watching the Fear the Walking Dead companion 50 second webisodes (or you've seen them during the ads, depending on where you live), you will already have met these characters before and have a better understanding of who the survivors are and how the flight went down in the first place.

Needless to say: zombies.

RECAP: Game of Thrones Season 6 Premiere: Episode 1, “The Red Woman”

Here’s what went down in Episode 1 (entitled “The Red Woman”) of the Season 6 premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones:
  • So, just in case we didn’t notice, HBO reassures us that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is dead. Like deader than dead. Lying in the snow with no one giving a fuck sort of dead. Really HBO, Jon Snow is dead? We get where you are going here. But then Davos (Liam Cunningham) turns up and some fucks are given, mainly about how to kill Alliser Thorne (Owen Teale). HBO shows us several close ups of Jon Snow during all this. Just to remind us, well, you know why. Thorne offers an amnesty to Davos and the scant night’s watchmen that are Team Snow, offering them safe passage if they open up the door. Davos calls him on his bullshit.

Amie Kaufman

Over the past couple of years, the life for authors Meagan Spooner and Jay Kristoff has taken an exciting turn. Meagan Spooner's sci-fi trilogy These Broken Stars has been optioned for a TV series by actor Eric Balfour's production company, whereas Jay Kristoff's trilogy, The Illuminae Files, has been optioned by Plan B, with Brad Pitt (yes, the Brad Pitt!) producing.

Both Spooner and Kristoff are living every author's dream, but not as much as Amie Kaufman.
And who is Amie Kaufman? Only the co-writer of both smash success young adult sci-fi series heading to the big and small screen.

Interview with Amie Kaufman

Amie Kaufman, as half of one writing duo with Meagan Spooner as the authors of the young adult fiction sci-fi trilogy These Broken Stars, and half of  another writing duo with Jay Kristoff behind the Illuminae Files trilogy, you have had a pretty tremendous couple of years.
I really have! It's been a lot of hard work and a lot of good times -- I still find most of it hard to believe!
