Following the announcement of a legit, 100% bonafide Australian contender in Eurovision Song Contest 2016, there has been an even bigger, even more exciting announcement, regarding a new, er, vision altogether!
Introducing, Asiavision! Well, I mean, that's not its name (yet) but SBS, the Australian television station that has been broadcasting Eurovision for over 30 years, has teamed with Blink TV and are in serious talks about development of an Asian version of the famous song contest.

Chairman for the Reference Group of the Eurovision Song Contest, Dr. Frank-Dieter Freiling, said:
We are excited by the fact that Eurovision’s appeal is crossing continental borders to Asian countries. SBS Australia has been broadcasting Eurovision for over 30 years, so we feel they are a perfect partner to build an alliance of networks with, and give Asian songwriters and artists the opportunity to perform on the Eurovision stage.
Can you imagine Asiavision? Korea and Japan will assuredly be favourite contenders due to the slick J-Pop and K-Pop machine that churns out epic, chart-topping boy and girl bands.
For those not entirely familiar with the styles of music I'm talking about, a K-Pop song that broke through into the Western charts in a big way was 2012's super-catchy Gangnam Style, by Psy.

I would also love to see surprise acts that rock the house from, say, Kazakhstan, or say, Saudi Arabia.
I can't wait to see how this all shakes out. Excuse me while I go listen to PopAsia for the next year so that I am adequately prepared for this if, or when, it happens.
